Abstract:
The global pandemic has become a catalyst for carrying out bold and drastic reform of Indonesia's national examination. In 2021, the government ended its high-stake national exit examination for 6th, 9th, and 12th grade students. The reformed assessment aims to portray quality of input, processes, and outcomes of student learning experience and provide regular feedback and insights to the government and policymakers at national and district levels. Composed of three surveys, the National Assessment (NA) collects data on and evidence of: the students' reading and numeracy skills, their character (socio-emotional skills), and their learning environment. In this seminar, the NA's framework and issues related to its implementation are introduced and discussed.
About the speaker:
Diah Wihardini graduated from the Quantitative Methods and Evaluation program of the Graduate School of Education, UC Berkeley under the supervision of Professor Mark Wilson in 2016. Her dissertation focused on the concept of opportunity-to-learn and how it could provide insights into Indonesian students’ performance in PISA 2012 mathematics. She obtained a B.Sc in Mathematics and Computer Science with Honours from the University of Adelaide and an M.Ed in Educational Assessment, Evaluation, and Research from Flinders University in Australia. She participated in various projects with the BEAR Center and went back to Indonesia in mid 2017. Since then, she has been working for BINUS University in Jakarta and now reporting directly to BINUS University’s Rector as the Director of BINUS Global. Apart from teaching Linear Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics, for the managerial role she oversees all activities related to new and existing collaborations with external partners for academic purposes and internationalization, including managing a nationwide university network with 20 other prominent Indonesian public and private universities and her institution’s global rankings. Her research interest includes large-scale assessment, evaluation, and educational policy analysis.
